Great Gift Ideas for Parents Expecting Twins

Preparing for the arrival of a new baby is an exciting time for  new parents. But, it can also be a little overwhelming at times, especially if they are expecting twins.

If you know of someone who is expecting twins, you most likely will be invited to a baby shower, or want to buy a gift for them. Or perhaps you are the expectant parent of twins, and want ideas to put on your gift registry.

So, I am going to share some gift ideas for expecting parents of twins. And, I’m going to break it down in groups of items that you will only need one, two, and multiple.

Just One Please

There will be times when a single item will be easier, less expensive, and take up less room. Thankfully, having twins doesn’t necessarily mean two of everything.

For example, operating two strollers at the same time would be extremely difficult if you were going out alone with the twins. If your spouse is with you, it would be easier, but cumbersome as far as packing two of them in the car.

A nice double stroller such as the Joovy Caboose tandem stroller is ideal for parents with twins, or even 3 children. It actually has the ability of carrying 3 young children.

When the babies get a little older, a lightweight double umbrella stroller is ideal for parents with two children. These are lighter in weight, easy to pack, and much easier to maneuver in tight areas than a full size stroller.

Another item that is ideal is a diaper bag for twins. There is no need to carry and pack two diaper bags, when you can get it all in one. It’s a little larger than a standard bag, but it still saves room, and frustration of keeping track of two.

Two is Better than One

Some items you just won’t be able to get away with having just one. Car seats are a good example. However, it’s also something you don’t want to buy someone, unless they have picked it out first. Check to see if they are registered for them, and possibly go in with someone else to purchase the two.

They will also want two highchairs. Again, it’s something you will want to check on what they want, because they vary so much.

One item they might not be aware of, is a bottle feeding system. These are hands-free units that allow for feeding both babies at the same time. I know I loved the bonding of holding my baby while feeding, but sometimes if both babies are crying for a bottle at the same time, this is the next best thing.

Speaking of feeding, nursing pillows are a great item to have. They act as a support for the baby when they are being fed. Often times they are referred to as a ‘boppy’, or feeding pillow. Whether nursing, or bottle fed they are wonderful. I loved mine, and highly recommend it for anyone with a newborn.

Multiples of…

Even with just one newborn, there are items you would want more than one of, but with two, it’s even more so.

Items such as crib sheets and blankets, or even diapers can be a great gift in multiples. It seems like I never had enough of any of these items, and would have appreciated multiples given as a shower gift.

Another great idea is to make a gift basket and fill it with small items such as:

·         Pacifiers
·         Bottles
·         Baby lotions, wash, and powder
·         Rattles
·         Bibs

I was given multiple jars of baby food as a shower gift, and loved it. Those little jars add up with just one infant in the house. I can’t imagine what it would be like having to buy for two. You could also see if the mom to be is interested in making her own. If so, a nice baby food maker would be a great gift.

Other gift ideas that would be good in multiples are books and lullaby CD’s.

In Closing

There are several gifts that expecting parents would appreciate, and I have just touched on a few. It will come down to their preference, your budget, and what they already have. For example, I suggested a stroller earlier, but perhaps they would prefer a Bumbleride Indie double stroller instead.

Finally, check with them to see if they are registered, or have any specific ideas in mind before buying big ticket items. Some of these are a safety concern and they may have done their research already. I know I searched the Internet for everything, looking at reviews, before deciding what I wanted.
