Promotional Gifts: Gift Ideas for Clients

Business isn’t easy.  It never has been.  But we’re in worrying times, with the flickering recession taking a toll on the middle to lower classes – and now the London riots.  How can a small to medium business survive in such a volatile climate?

Trust – it’s not the only answer but it’s a very good start.  The same principles still apply to business management and promotion.  If you are in search of ideas for survival, growth and even expansion, it’s important to invest in marketing and promotion.  These aspects of business can often be sidetracked during weak financial times, but good marketing skills can help you rise above your competition.

Overcome Competition: The Power of Promotional Gifts

Setting yourself apart from other businesses in your niche will help you build your name, your brand and your reputation.  How can you become the first name that customers think of when they need XYZ?  Promotional gifts still play a big part in marketing – and why should gifts be limited for personal use? Promotional gifts can help you do the following:

  • Say a big “thank you” to loyal customers who have been with you for many years.
  • Attract new ones by showing them your generosity, your professionalism and your compliance for customer care.
  • Create brand awareness and spread the word about your company.
  • Improve your company reputation as a dynamic, vibrant and inventive business.

Gift Ideas for Your Clients

The feeling of giving and receiving presents when it comes to family occasions and big holidays, is something that we all treasure; it’s warm feeling that we can all relate to.  Extending this out to clients with promotional gifts not only puts a smile on their faces, but it’s a marketing tactic you just can’t afford to miss out on.

There are many places you can use promotional gifts; exhibitions, trade shows, conferences, client meetings, internal meetings, on the shop floor, on the street, at events, dinners and charity balls, with product deliveries, or with DMS (Direct Mail Shots).

Here are some fantastic gift ideas for your customers:

  • Pens and stationery – everyone needs stationery, people of all ages, in all industries and sectors.  This is a guaranteed winner because you can never have too many pens.  Make sure your name is engraved into the user’s mind with a gift that can be used every day.
  • Mugs – mugs are perfect for offices.  If you are targeting B2B clients, mugs are a great way of advertising your name and your logo.  Don’t forget to leave you website / telephone number on there.
  • Toys and games – this is a very inventive option and shows your clients that your company can be innovative.  Puzzles and games can present your recipients with hours of fun, which means that you can really get your name noticed.
  • Bags – from satchels and shoppers to cooler bags and eco bags, there are many different options for branded bags.  Bags can be used every day for many, many years.  Your logo could be seen anywhere and everywhere.  Although this is an expensive option, it really does open up your advertising opportunities.

5 Gifts You Might Receive From Looters

It’s all kicking off in the major cities in the UK, with “angry young people” of Britian turning to violence and widespread looting with the police and spectators looking on in horror. This article was inspired by the idiot who posted a picture (on the left) of his loot on a well known social media website.

The Gift Arena in no way condone the actions taken by mindless, senseless and ignorant looters in London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Nottingham, Manchester and the rest of the UK. We actually condemn the acts of these mindless thugs. Our condolences goes out to all the parties affected by this terrible event.

Britain’s most famous and exclusive shops has been targeted by looter looking to getting their hands on luxury goods and to make a quick buck. There are some reports that many of the looted goods are appearing on Ebay but this has been confirmed. Here are the top five items targeted by the looters in the last week:-

Video Games

Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo consoles, games an accessories are all hot property at the moment. Our most famous game retailers and independent retailers have been targeted by the rioters. Images are circulating of people with bagfuls of games. I just hope they stole the ones that empty and only for display services.

Mobile Phones

Smartphones are sort after luxury items for the looters with many target the popular phones such as iPhones, Samsungs and Blackberries.

Sports wear

Videos have been circulating within the UK press of looters coming out of well known sports stores with handfuls and bagfuls of stolen trainers, jogging bottoms, socks, football shirts, etc.

Jewellery

This is not a surprise especially with the price of gold rising. Normally the preferred target for harden criminal and gun wielding gangs but in the last week we have seen these “young thugs” smashing windows and taking what they want.

Carpets

“CARPETS!!”, why on earth would you loot a carpet store. Come on people.

We have been shamed internationally by these random act of violence and looting, we’ve got the Olympic in 2012 and this isn’t shining a good light on the good people of Britain and our police officers.

Underwater Photography Gifts

Keen photographers are hard to buy for. There are hundreds of gadgets to choose from, but it can be hard to figure out which ones are compatible with their camera and which ones they already have in their collection of lenses, strobes, tripods and attachments.

One way to open up a whole new world to any photographer is to help them get underwater. There are interesting subjects in almost any body of water, ranging from a beachside rock pool to freshwater rivers to the deep ocean, and a whole new set of techniques to master- there’s nothing a photographer likes more than learning how to take new and different shots.

There are two ways to get wet with a camera. Waterproof compact cameras provide an easy way of getting photos on the beach or around the swimming pool. They’re great for sailors, fishermen (and women), and anyone who spends a lot of time around water, but most of them aren’t designed to be used under the surface. For that you really need a camera sealed inside a waterproof underwater housing.
A good quality plastic housing will let you use most camera functions, including the flash, while snorkelling, swimming, or scuba diving. If the photographer in your life would love to get good quality surf shots or capture underwater images while diving, this is definitely the route to take. Specialist cameras designed to work perfectly in a housing are available, but you can also get excellent waterproof housings for a whole range of normal digital cameras.

Buying a whole new system probably isn’t necessary. Just take a peek at the brand and model number of their favourite digital compact or SLR camera and go searching online- you will probably find a housing that will fit snugly and provide all the necessary access to buttons, zoom features, and menus. Just make sure it comes with good specifications, as some models are only intended for use in very shallow water.
Features to look out for include a moisture alarm (excellent for anyone who might be nervous about taking an expensive camera underwater) and an attachment point for an external strobe. These aren’t essential but they can come in very handy, especially for more serious photographers.

If the one you’re buying for already has an underwater camera and housing, the best gift will almost certainly be an external flash or strobe. The best marine photographers generally use a system with two strobes, to get around the problems created by taking photos in murky water. A powerful dive flashlight can also be very handy for lighting up dark spaces underwater.

RC Helicopters: What To Know When You Buy

If you are a beginning hobbyist, buying your first remote control helicopter can be confusing. Different statistics can sometimes sound like a new language that you need to learn. In order to know as much as possible about buying your first RC helicopter, it’s important that you know the following statistics and terms.

The first thing that most people are confused about is the size of the remote control helicopter. The .30, .60, and .90 sizes that helicopter hobbyists refer to is about the size of the motor in the helicopter. This is purely a personal choice for many. Another size that might be referred is the ratio between this helicopter to a real one . Usually would 1:10, 1:12 , the number will be smaller the larger the helicopter is.

When choosing how to power your remote controlled helicopter, you can choose electric or nitro. Many longtime enthusiasts are switching from nitro to electric, simply because the engineering focus of many companies has switched from nitro to electric. The result of this focal switch is that many electric helicopters are now outperforming gas ones. EP might be written next to the name of your favorite RC helicopter, and that signifies that it’s electrically powered.

Buying your first RC helicopter also means you’re going to run into the phrases “Kit” and “RTF”. RC Helicopter Kits are meant to be helicopters that are built by you. If you are a beginner, and don’t have much construction talent, getting a kit probably isn’t a good idea. RTF stands for Ready-To-Fly, and they generally come preassembled. RTFs are almost all electric.

Maneuverability is a major factor when it comes to buying an RC Helicopter. Most RC helicopters come with the option of 4-channel, or 6-channel controls. Basically, that means how many different radio channels are used in order to direct the helicopter. The more channels used, the more accurately you can control your helicopter, and the more tricks you can perform in order to wow your friends.

Another major factor that should not be overlooked is the flight time , charge time and reception range , these are the most crucial factors that will determine what the flying experience will be. Generally one should be very careful not to fly the heli away from the reception range. And watch out for when its battery is draining out , this would be a good time to land and recharge.

Once you actually learn what those terms mean, picking a helicopter that fits your needs is pretty easy. Remember, if you don’t understand some of the lingo that other helicopter hobbyists are using, just ask. Most people will explain it to you without issue.

Five Low Cost Ways to Get Your Kids Outside

Within one generation the whole concept of childhood has changed. Children of the 70s and 80s spent much of their childhood outdoors exploring, playing games and thinking up creative ways to have fun.

The average child of the 21st Century spends about 55 hours a week watching television, playing computer games, texting and browsing the internet. That’s the equivalent of almost eight hours a day.

More scarily, even pre-schoolers (those aged 2 to 5) spend around 32.5 hours a week sat in front of the television.

All this time indoors has been proven to affect a child’s mental development. They are also more prone to becoming obese and showing signs of ADHD. In some cases our children are even developing rickets (softening of the bones) due to a lack of vitamin D (of which our main source is the sun).

Conversely, play outdoors, whether in a local wood, park or back yard (or as our English friends might say, garden), helps children to improve their creativity, build problem-solving skills and learn to become more self-reliant.

Unfortunately, it’s not that easy to persuade your kids to leave the sofa and embrace the outdoors. However, here are five great ideas for you to try!

Set Up Camp

Strangely enough, one of the most enjoyable garden toys for children isn’t a toy at all – it’s a tent. While most people associate a tent with going away, kids can have just as much fun with one right in their own back yard.

Create a Treasure Hunt

Treasure hunts are a great way to get kids running around and using their creativity and problem solving skills. You don’t even need any pricey garden toys for children to have fun with this one – a few pieces of card and a pen will do.

Hunt the Bugs

Getting your kids to find bugs is a fantastic learning exercise and a great way to get them to become more at-one with nature. Invest in a cheap ‘book of bugs’ so your children can have fun identifying their finds. Again, you don’t need any expensive garden toys – a magnifying glass and a book is all that’s required.

Build a Fort

This is something we all did as a child, and even in this era of electronics it’s still fantastic fun. There’s no need to invest in costly garden toys for children like a Wendy house – some used boxes, old sheets and an imagination can create the best fort in the world.

Buy Some Cheap Garden Toys for Children

Not all toys have to be expensive. Often the simpler toys are not only cheaper, but will be used for many months longer than that handmade dolls house or G.I. Joe set.

A paddling pool, ball and net or a low cost swing set will all be loved for months, if not years. If the toys are something you can use as a family; even better.

This post was written by James Harper on behalf of The Original Factory Shop who carries an excellent range of garden toys for children. James enjoys the outdoors and writing about its benefits.

Gifts for Word Lovers

You know word lovers, dictionary junkies whose fascination with the English language (and other languages) is a big part of their identity. They may be voracious readers, Scrabble and Boggle fanatics, or amateur writers working hard to get their first book published. Buying gifts for the word lover in your life is easy as long as you can think a little outside the box.

Word people have spent their entire lives getting the same gifts over and over: Moleskin notebooks, odd dictionaries and thesauruses, and the dreaded chain bookstore gift certificates. The next time you need to give the word person in your life a gift, think outside the box.

Here are a few unique gift ideas for word lovers.

The Word Snoop by Ursula Dubosarsky

Alright, it’s a book. What’s unique about that? This book is crammed with amazing facts about the English language. I’ve been a word person my whole life, but even I hadn’t heard of this book until it was given to me on my last birthday. Crammed with interesting facts and stories about the English language and how it developed, The Word Snoop is the perfect book for the book lover who has everything.

WallCandy Whiteboard Decals

These are totally unique and really useful for writers or anyone obsessed with words. WallCandy are removable whiteboard “stickers” that attach sturdily to walls without peeling paint or leaving a stain. The stickers are non-toxic, and you can write on them with any marker that will write on a whiteboard. Use them to plan a story, write out a grocery list, or cover an entire wall in them and make a “writer’s wall.”

AquaNotes Waterproof Notepads

If you know a word lover or writer who gets inspired in the shower, hot tub, or pool, AquaNotes waterproof notepads are a great gift that they’ve never seen or heard of before. These notepads can be written on with a pencil, and the writing won’t smear or get ruined by a little liquid. Perfect for poets who want to jot down a quick idea in the shower.

Scrabble-doku by Frank Longo

Combining Scrabble with popular puzzle game Sudoku, Scrabble-doku replaces the numbers of Sudoku puzzles with legal Scrabble words. This game must be played to be fully appreciated. It’s great training for Scrabble players and the perfect road trip distraction for word lovers.

5 Interesting Security and Protection Gift Ideas

I’m not sure about you, but finding a good gift these days is becoming trickier and trickier. Everyone buys whatever they want whenever they want, meaning that shopping for friends or family usually means being left second guessing clothing sizes or spending more than you would have liked to.
As the types of products available or suitable gradually reduce, so has our need to be creative been increased. More and more often we are looking further afield for inspiration and looking at product groups which you would never have considered five or ten years ago.

It is this need for creativity which brought security products under the radar. In this age of expensive home products and extended holidays everyone can benefit from increased home and personal security. Developments in security technology has meant that not only are there some brilliant gadgets available, but the majority won’t break the bank either – making them perfect gifts. Not as exciting as some but certainly more practical than most. Here are our top 5:

1. Tiny consumer PIR sensor

One for those who already have a home alarm system and for those that don’t, but equally one I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with. For less than £30 you can turn the recipient into a regular James Bond, the PIR sensor can work on its own or with an existing system – making it even more flexible. With dimensions of 7 x 2.8 x 2.5cm coupled with the fact it isn’t limited to one location; the sensor really can be used for a multitude of tasks.

2. Barking dog alarm

Barking dogs are a pretty sure fire way to dissuade a burglar from targeting your property. The beauty of a motion activated barking dog alarm is that you don’t have to deal with the daily problems created by actual dog ownership. For less than £50 you can have your very own guard dog. If you already own a dog, the alarm will allow you to record your dog’s bark; increasing the authenticity especially if the burglar has scouting your premises previously.

3. Motion sensor spy hole

We all like to know who is at the door before we open it, what about knowing who was at the door whilst you were out? The motion sensor spy hole is a DIY kit which adds a sophisticated digital camera and motion sensor to your front door that records an image of anyone who comes within 2-4 meters. It has a micro SD memory station so can store as many or as few images as you like. A great way catching would be burglars or seeing how popular you are whilst on holiday!

4. Personal alarm

Although the actual retail value of most personal alarms is relatively low, the value to the recipient potentially could be priceless. Typically not costing over £5 these alarms are more often than not given to women or those residing in less than desirable areas. Most personal alarms are small enough to attach to a key ring, but most pack more than a 140db punch. This level of noise is both loud enough to scare off most attackers but also loud enough to attract attention to a fallen elderly citizen indoors.

5. DIY home alarm system

A bit more of an extravagant present than some of those mentioned above, DIY home alarms typically retail between £150 and £250. However with DIY alarms, there are no hidden retainer fees or renting of equipment; the price you pay is the total cost of the alarm. For an item which will have such a big impact and require an hour or so of installation it might be worth testing the water before purchase. A DIY home alarm however makes a totally unique gift and one that could really make a difference in the future.

These security gift ideas are brought to you by Yale home alarm systems. Each of Yale’s home security systems is installed free of charge by a specialist Yale security point engineer.

7 Reasons Why Shirts Make A Great Gift

It’s always hard to think of an appropriate gift for a man who has it all. Men don’t wear make-up, are not into shoes or the latest fashion and do not carry around handbags. On the other hand, men must dress as well and a shirt is pretty much a universal item of clothing that all men will wear sooner or later. So here are not 1 or 2 but 7 reasons why a shirt is a great gift for a man.

Always needed

Unlike other gifts, pick the right shirt and it will be worn over and over again. Men can get away with wearing a shirt in many everyday situations and sometimes they have no other choice if they need to dress up more formally. So a shirt is pretty much a useful gift.

And hey, you’ll also help your man look smarter. That tired old sweater or t-shirt is prime for the bin.

Any colour, style and pattern

Does he already have a white shirt? A striped shirt? 10 shirts? It doesn’t matter. A fresh new white shirt is always going to be used eventually when the old one gets…old. Or maybe the white shirt that you picked has French cuffs and a spread collar while his is a short-sleeves one with a buttoned-down collar. Of patterns and colours when it comes to stripes, you can have a huge variety. Don’t forget abstract prints on more casual shirts.

You might want to pick a colour or style that he likes. Maybe he wears mostly short-sleeves, or doesn’t have any cufflinks to go with French cuffs. Maybe he hates pink and likes to play safe with blue. You will find a range of blue shirts here: Blue Shirts

Small and compact

That’s exactly what a shirt is. Light and easy to carry as well, what more can you wish for? Nothing fragile either needing special handling or packaging.

A range of prices

Shirts can come as cheap as you’d want or very expensive – bespoke shirts come to mind. So no matter how much or how little money you want to spend on him, you’ll find a shirt to fit the bill. At the bottom of the price range, you will find polyester or polycotton shirts, with a low percentage of cotton. At the higher end, you will find prestige brands and high quality craftsmanship and good material such as pure cotton or silk. If you purchase a quality shirt, you can be certain that it will last for a long time. Pure cotton shirts are especially resistant to many washing cycles.

Size him up

One thing to remember if you’ve set your mind on one shirt is his size. There is no point in spending time and money to choose the best shirt if it’s not going to fit him. You can exchange the shirt later for another size but of course it would be better if it could fit him the first time. So ask someone or sneak around to find out his shirt size, usually the collar size in inches or centimetres.

Expand on the gift

Do you find a shirt too boring, too utilitarian as a gift? Why not expand on it and add a matching tie, tie clip or cufflinks? Pick a set that comes in a beautifully made box set for better presentation. Now there’s nothing plain about it anymore. While a tie clip or a tie might look inadequate on their own as a gift, depending on who is going to receive it, a shirt and a tie go well together.

Easy to find

Perhaps one of the most ubiquitous items to find around. Most, if not all clothing shops with at least a small section for men will have a few selection of shirts. If you are picky, go to a menswear store and browse by size, colour, fabric, style or brand. Perhaps that will be the hardest part of it all: making up your mind to choose the shirt when you have such a wide selection in front of you.

Now what? Ready to shop? Don’t know where to start? Online is the best place: www.mushirts.co.uk has put together a great selection of shirts for men from across many stores.

9 Ways to get Rid of Unwanted Gifts

Ugly Christmas jumpers by Remy Sharp (http://www.flickr.com/photos/remysharp/5288052338/)1. Regifting

Regifting is hands down the best way to get rid of an unwanted gift, especially when you don’t want to ask for a receipt. We have all been given that ugly shirt from Aunt Sue, only to give the shirt a permanent home in the bottom of our dresser or the back of the closet. Regifting is great as you don’t hurt the gift-givers feelings, and save a bit of money from having to buy someone a gift. Just make sure you don’t regift that present to the person who gave it to you!

2. Exchange or Return the Gift

Exchanging gifts is another popular to handle those unwanted gifts. Most of the time you’ll need the gift receipt, which isn’t always pleasant to ask for. Once you have the receipt in hand, you’ll be able to exchange your gift or in some cases, get cash back. Either way it’s a win-win situation, and you’ll end up with a present you actually wanted.

3. Donate your Gift

Sometimes you’ll get a gift that you can’t return, or simply don’t want to. When you run across a gift like that, you can always donate it to charity! You can donate items to may organizations like Goodwill, the Red-Cross, or Toys for Tots just to name a few. A great idea around the holidays; especially for those unwanted toys!

4. The Gift Card Swap

Growing up most of us got gifts wrapped in a box, but nowadays Gift Cards are starting to take over the holidays. The only bad thing about getting a gift card is when it’s for something you’ll never use. It’s no fun to get a gift card for a fancy Steak house if you’re a vegetarian. That’s where swapping gift cards comes into play. There are a lot of sites around the net that allow you to trade your gift cards in for another gift card more to your liking. You can also sell those gift cards at places like Ebay.

5. DVD & CD Trading sites

DVD’s, CD’s and BlueRay’s are popular gifts nowadays, and everyone loves a good movie or some music. With all the popular new releases coming out every week it’s very possible that you’ll receive a duplicate disk. No worries, as sites like Spun.com can solve that problem. Media trading sites are very popular, and allow their users to trade buy, sell, and even trade unwanted media. Now you’ve found a place to unload that Barry Manilow album your cousin got you last year!

6. Badgiftemporium.com

Badgiftemporium.com is a great place where unwanted presents go to get a new lease on life. You can list your strange, or otherwise unusable gift along with its origins on the site. All you have to do after that is sit back and wait for the offers to come pouring in! It’s also fun to check out other people’s horrible gifts. After browsing the site you may find that your terrible present might not be as bad as you thought after all.

7. iRent2u.com

iRent2u is by far one of the coolest sites we’ve seen. This site allows you to actually “Rent” unwanted items or gifts to others. You can rent out anything from video games and audio equipment to homes and vehicles. Get a crappy car for Christmas? Well, you can rent that out for a few days to someone in your area with iRent2u.

8. Ebay

A list like this isn’t complete without an appearance from the entity known as Ebay. Ebay is one of the best places on the net to get rid of stuff you don’t want anymore. Another good thing about the site is that it’s so massive, there’s a good chance that somebody will actually want your unwanted gift. Whether you got a Pet Rock for a present or a funky sweater, someone will most likely bid on it on Ebay!

9. If all else fails… Destroy the gift!

Last but not least, if you have that one gift that you can’t seem to give away, sell, trade or lose…you can always destroy it. Don’t like that Twilight DVD your sister got you for Christmas? Well, disks are great for target practice. How about the 1980s style sweater-vest your vile mother-in-law got you? Bury it, burn it, or just toss it in the river. Maybe it’s a cursed item or maybe you just don’t like it, either way with a little imagination, you’ll be rid of that dreadful gift forever!
